Hong Kong and Taiwan: The nuance of one country? Or two systems?

On 24 February 2023, I delivered a seminar in an executive education at the Australian Centre on China in the World, Australian National University about comparing the situation in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

“We often hear from the media that today’s Hong Kong will become tomorrow’s Taiwan. Indeed, people have been comparing Hong Kong and Taiwan, especially after the National Security Law. This session provides an overview of the social and political environment in Hong Kong and Taiwan, exploring to what extent the two cases are comparable, including their history, political systems, social and political groups, and relationship with Beijing.”
